UkrainiHen flies home to Fernhurst Hub!

Our window acted as nesting place for the beautiful UkrainiHen all summer as part of the Haslemere Hens community arts and fundraising initiative. She then starred as ‘poster girl’ for the Gala Auction held on 22nd October at Haslewey with Brian Howard acting as an eloquent auctioneer and she was bought by a consortium of supporters of the Fernhurst Hub.

The Hub’s Chair of Trustees, Antonia Plant said,” This beautiful blue and yellow hen, painted by Zoe Oliver of Canvassing Happiness, has become a part of the décor at the Hub. We are delighted that she is here to stay in recognition of how the people of Fernhurst have opened their hearts and homes and welcomed the Ukrainians into their lives. We thank the supporters of the ‘Hen for the Hub’ appeal who clubbed together to buy her. We are equally delighted that the funds raised to buy this and two other hens, kindly topped up by the Haslemere Chamber of Commerce, will benefit the Ukrainian community in the UK and abroad.”

A formal presentation of a cheque to Petworth Ukraine Relief, based near Lodsworth, will take place later in the month. As well as holding regular ‘Meet up for tea’ sessions for Ukrainian visitors, we have also collected donations of toiletries and toys to be passed to Petworth Ukrainian Relief, which transports food and necessities to Ukraine as well as supporting UK based migrants with day-to-day essentials.
